The Young Guard faced two fine Russian divisions: 3rd Infantry and 2nd Cuirassier. Transpprting substantial military forces to America was expensive and nothing had come of it except burning Washington. S. naval vessels and privateers; yet, they were mostly plain seamen and cooks, and there was hardly any chance for them to be promoted. He cited three reasons for his declaration: (1) Britain’s economic blockade; (2) the seizure of American merchant seamen into the Royal British Navy; and (3) British support and incitement of Native American tribe attacks on the frontier.
